turtle wax... safe?

a buddy of mine recently told me NOT to use turtle wax. he said it messes with the paint finish somehow. as long as it's clear coat safe i'm good though right??

i just bought myself a beautiful 2000 Camaro, the paint is in good shape and i'm looking to keep it that way. i need advice what to use and what not to use on my paint!!

You're right. As long as the product says "clear coat safe" on the package or in the instructions you are good to go.

Although it will not damage your paint it won't give you results on par with other waxes out there. If you are not going to use zaino and just stick to waxes, then I recommend either zymol or Meguiars. Both will give you better results and are far more durable.

Turtle Wax isn't really so bad. For what it is, you get what you pay for. It's not the most durable, but there certainly are better waxes out there. I actually used Turtle Wax on my SS last year and it came out surprisingly good. I mean, they've been in business for many decades so it must be working for someone.

Turtle wax is sort of mediocre; it does the job but is nothing fancy. The Color Cure line is a joke, considering your top layer of paint is clear anyhow, why does it matter what color wax you put on? Zymol is in the same ballpark but does a better job. Zymol fills in light scratches/swirls with a plastic compound that will help diminish the appearance of them.

Personally I like Meguiars products the best. For a great all-around wax that will protect and shine in one step, get the Gold Class wax. If you have many scratches/swirls/oxidation, it will be best to use the Meguiars Three-Stage Deep Crystal system, it takes awhile to do, but once you do you won’t be disappointed. After you wash the car the first step is to Clean, which means remove/diminish those scratches/swirls. Then you use a pure polish to make your baby shine. And finally to protect, you add a pure wax. You could shorten the process though, by buying only stage 1, cleaning, of deep crystal, and doing stages 2 & 3 with Just a bottle of Gold Class.

Any name brand wax will do the job however, but to get the best results keep this things in mind:

NEVER use Dawn or any dish soap on your car, it will strip wax.

ALWAYS use 100% cotton towels, synthetic fibers will make millions of small scratches in pattern commonly referred to as "swirl marks"

Wax in the shade, too much heat will make the product difficult to remove and not as effective.

Hope this helps, SB
