Well my 96 decided to give me some trouble again. 3.8L 5spd tranny. I now can't get into 5th gear. tranny has about 90k miles on it was shifting great up until last night. still goes through 1-4 great and no problem getting into reverse. just can't get into 5th gear. I'm thinking syncros are starting to go. what do y'all think? and if so what's the best way to go about fixing them and where do you get the parts? Thanks in advance

 

Yeah it does sound like the syncro. You can confirm by opening up the access cover (requires you to pull down the tranny) and check to see if the brass color ring has a rounded off point. Most transmission shops can get the parts or a GM dealer but thats about it. If your good with trannys you can do it yourself, however it is usually cheaper to get one out of a junk yard.
