torque question

in the back of my 98s manual it says the engine torque is 305 ftlbs, but i've read in a couple different places that it's 225. which is it?

Re: torque question

Im assuming its the 3.8L but I think 225 sound right. 305 ft/lbs would be more like an LT1

Re: torque question

Mine says 305 too, but they are rated at 225. 200 at the rear wheels on stock trim.
I think GM detuned it from 305 on the prototype to be honest.

Re: torque question

I had a 98 V6 Camaro and saw that in the manual too.

It's a typo.

Re: torque question

I spoke with a Tremec Official here at the Knoxville Plant, he advised me the TQ rating was 255 for our 99+ World Class Series. I have a hard time believing that since I have seen WorldClass T-5's handle upwards of 350TQ. I am planting its Nominal Rated Capacity now just running naturally aspirated configuration.

And I just exploded mine on last wed, with gutted stock intake and a cutout on the stock catback, lsd, and a some 235 street tires I got used. with a good launch that night I was looking at a 14.5 runs and maybe93 mph.

255, imo seems very very very very reasonable.

btw food for thought on the t5...

pathogen has been through like 4 t5s
linxs killed one
little g killed one(think it was only the synchros though)
arthansen killed one(part of the reason he sold his car)
Viper, killed his on his 1st run
I killed one in my 3.8L
I killed 3 of them in my 3.4L

If your running anyting "competitive" better get a built tranny or a auto. Or you are gong to be stranded.

Re: torque question

Yes, LittleG toasted the synchros in his stock T5, and the synchros in his current one aren't doing to well either.

The trans GM used in these cars is not the same WorldClass T5 that you would find in the later fox-body mustangs and third gen f-bodies. They really don't handle abuse well in stock form.
