Torque Converter...Please Help

Hey guys, here is the deal, I have a 1998 3.8L V6 Camaro, the thing is bone stock. LTLHOMER, suggested that I get a Vigilante 2800 Torque Converter with a Transgo Shift Kit. I was wondering if the gains would be noticable enough that it would be worth doing. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You'd feel it in the seat of your pants!

And you'd probably chirp the tire(s) shifting into second gear!

only if you drag race your car is that a good choice. personally i would go higher myself in stall, but then i drag. your car is bone stock, a TC is not usually a first mod. its a serious mod, but more and more people are getting them. the only time you will feel it is when you launch, but then you dont even have limited slip yet.

no, not a good choice for a first mod. yes a good choice for mods, but i dont think your car is ready for it. imho

yea thats true, you should think about gettin intake and a cat-back exhaust first. Then look at gears and a tc.

PullmeOver, that's a big stall converter you have. What's your 1/4 time or is it private?

I have 3.42 gears. The reason I am considering the mod, is because I think it is a safe, fun, and noticable mod. Although it is kinda pricey I think it will be worth it. I do not want to dump money into exhaust and intake since I plan on getting a V8 after I complete college, and I do not need exhaust and intake for a torque converter to be effective.

I think it's a great first mod. He already has a good gear ratio for the trans (3.42 stock cuz of y87 or whatever it is) and there'd be no reason to go up just a tiny amount to get the 3.73's. Add up what gains you get from the catback and intake, and then look at what the TC will give you. Definitly a worthwhile first mod. It's not like you need anything else to get one. Plenty of people get TC's as their first mod and they get great gains as well.

does he drag race? cause if he doesnt, i wouldnt bother. yes the gains are impressive, but how can you even have a car track worthy with no intake and exhaust? i see it is possible, but that just dont make much sense to me. i could just hear that car trying to breath at the launch.

Yea, you might wanna mod up your intake and exhaust first. It's not expensive at all. Get the torque oonverter afterwards. Edge sells converters for the V6s for around 400 bucks.
