Post Tire Pressure

Hey everyone,
I have a 2000 V6 Camaro Convertible with stock wheels and tires...dont know the number off the top of my head, but they are kinda big. N E way, i checked the pressure today and they were at 28 PSI...
I filled them to 40 PSI, but my bro says that's too much. What should they be? Thanx
