Timing Belt or Timing Chain?

Hey,

Does anyone know if the 2k1 Camaros or any Camaro for that matter have a timing belt or a timing chain? Is there a difference? At what mileage should the belt or chain get replaced?

Thanks,
Paul

Re: Timing Belt or Timing Chain?

I beleive all v6 4th gens had timing chains...

As for it being changed I think I have only heard of like 1-2 times where someone actually hd to change it.

I have heard people with 160,000+ miles and on the stock timing chain no problem.

Re: Timing Belt or Timing Chain?

The 3800II has a timing chain. I would like to see some one try and prove other wise.
Timing chains last way longer than any belt.
Most car makers recomend changing them at 60,000 miles or if the water pump dies.
Timing chains go for 200,000 miles easy in most cases, the only time you change them is if there is a timing problem that won't go away (usaly after 170,000miles) or when you rebuild the engine.
I don't know if any timing gears are made for the 3800II.
