Back when I had a 3.4 I was going to do the same thing. The 3.73's will work, but your right your speedo will be off, and so will your shift points. As far as I know there is no tuning software for the 3.4. but I'm sure it can be done, it's just very hard to find things for the 3.4 especially tuning wise.

I'm Pretty sure there are some guys on here with 3.4's with rear gears maybe they can help you out when they see this.

I've got 3.73's in my rear as well, I just live with the speedo error. But then I have a manual. I'm not so sure the shift points will be affected all that much in the auto, I know several people who have done gears without reprogramming. It wouldn't hurt for the 3.4 to shift a little sooner anyway, with the stock cam peak power comes on before 5000rpm and I believe the stock shift point at WOT is like 5300 or so. But if you would want to get the PCM corrected for the gears you can always send it off to Fastchip.com

I have a 3.8 97 and I took it to the dealer only to spend $80 bucks for them to tell me my 3:73 couldnt be set in the pcm. So i send it off to texas performance speed and they where about to reflash my pcm with other modds i had in it. So speedo is correct and adjusted the shift points.

A dealer can only program the PCM for gears that were available as options from the factory.

We have 3.4's, and unfortunately Fastchip.com is the only vendor that offers custom tuning for us. Last time I checked they charged a little over $300.

I think www.pcmforless.com will send you a compatable 96 PCM in place of your 95. They also have an excellent special running right now.

I didn't know a 96 PCM (only going to be a 3.8L ECM) was compatible with a 95 and a 3.4L...

:/

It's the 97 PCM they will send you to replace the one in a 96 3.8 car.
