tempted to get some bolt on SFC

Everyone has weld on ones but I really have no means of geting them welded around here and I would like to be able to take them off if I switch cars down the road.

Anyone have experience accross the bord? V6 &V8 applications?

I was thinking if I needed to I would upgrade the nuts to self locking &use lock tight if the fear is them coming undone.

If you really want them buy bolt ins and have them welded in later on when you find someone to do it. I paid $75, Im sure you can find someone around you to do them.

I have a set of the bolt on type from SLP. They have been on my car for several years and I check them every no and again. They have NEVER loosened up. One other advantage to the bolt on SLP's is that they came powder coated while the weld on type did not.

I got BMR sfc's welded on for like $30... personally I'd just get them welded. If you end up changing cars, they can be cut off. When I sold the car they were welded on I took it back to the exhaust shop, and had them cut them off for $20. No biggie, I then sold them to a friend for about $100 heh.

Where do you live in NJ??? I live about 45 minutes from Jersey, in the Allentown area. I'm a welder if you need that work done. As far as romoving them, you can but not as easily as bolt in ones naturally.

FWIW, there are two brands of SFC for my car (actually they are called lower chassis braces, but it's the same concept)- TRD and Tom's racing. Both brands are bolt-on only. I mean I guess you could weld them on if you wanted to, but over at the lexus forum nobody has even considered such a thing, as nobody has ever had a problem with them loosening up.

I'm glad someone asked this. I'm probably going to do some SFCs in the near future. Everyone says they really tighten things up (and my car is still remarkably tight for a 92k mile '96 - mostly freeway miles helps). I've had a few people say the bolt in kind won't really do anything, which seems wrong to me. All sorts of subframes and crossmembers are bolted to the cars...

Those who have bolt-on sfcs (or have in the past), did you notice a real difference compared to no sfcs? Do they tighten up the car nicely? I'm not looking to race my car (at least not yet); I just want to tighten her up a bit, but have the ability to return to stock. Any thoughts?

Huh? This isn't a V6 question... It applies to all 4th gen cars. That includes V6, LT1, and LS1, right? The original poster even asked specifically about both V6 and V8 applications. Could you at least put it in LT1 tech where it will get the most exposure?

I don't know why people are afraid of bolt ons. If you think about it, all your major suspension parts are bolted on. Just use some loc-tight and go with it.
