Wouldn't N20 be a viable alternative??

I have always heard if you replace a V6 with a V8 that it dosen't run as good as if you just went out and bought a stock V8....... is this a myth or are you gonna have to start with a V8 to really have a fast car
If you swap out all the right stuff, you wouldn't be able to tell the differnce...plus, your insurance still just covers a V6 because that's what's on the VIN, which is way cheaper than a Z28 or T/A...

Well, let me add a little more confusion.

A couple of years ago, I stopped by Vinci Hi-Performance here in Orlando, to have some work done on my Firebird. While I was there I noticed a really nice red late model Z28 up on a lift having the engine dropped. Catching sight of the supercharger mounted on that engine, I wandered over to ask the tech a few questions.
Seems the owner of the car had put some serious bucks into his motor...with lots of internal work, all the usual bolt-ons, and of course the blower, it was putting down something like 650 rwhp.

And the guy still wasn't satisfied. So he was yanking the engine completely, and replacing it with a specially custom built crate motor, estimated to be turning out around 900+ horses when everything was said and done.
Naturally, there would also be a lot of suspension and transmission upgrades as well.

And as I looked at the old engine, (imagining it in my Firebird) it occurred to me that the guy had WASTED all that money on mods he was no longer using...except for the blower, which would be transferred to the new engine. THEN it occurred to me that he had ALSO wasted at least five grand buying a Z, when he could have bought a plain Camaro to begin with, if he had known from the beginning what he was eventually going to do.
So, my advice is, forget that four grand limit. Mortgage your house, rob a bank, get some serious bucks together, and build yourself a 9 second monster right from the get go.

Off topic here, 273.4 RWHP sounds on the low side for a stock LS1. Any clue why?

Nope, I was disappointed too. But you have to remember A4's dyno a bit lower than M6's

273.4 still is around 341 at the crank.

I agree with the n2o, $1000 comparied to $2500-3000

I would just set up a nice shot of juice maybe a investment in a good performer cam, and you would be off.

That's the way it should be! (except maybe the little part about robbing the bank )

Oh yeah,I'll second that.Rikster another interestin one!

In my opinion I dont think of the blown v6,as to be compared to the 8.Or swapin one in,People are different.
For me to want to build my motor to handle 7-G ++ rpm,and the right blower intercooled.Making it the baddest(one of) v6s built,to me is "unique" "hey check out to totally detailed blown v6".Hot Rod Mag.,Super Chevy pooop man. So I dont think its a waste of 4G,to be "Unique" no damn Powerdyne either,if ATI dont step up,I'll mod a LS1 intercooled one on that built block.
I allready plan to own a v8 though(any day),and keepin the 6 too...You see I've been around awhile.Have owned many cars(have 4 now)and when its time for an 8(find one cheap) I'll just buy one,not jerk the 6 outa a perfectly good car. 420hp blown V6,sounds really,Wooo
