Why do a lot of drag racers (non-NHRA) use leaf blowers in between rounds to cool off their engines?

Same thing going on here...that's why you have a radiator, coolant, fan, and all that good stuff, to keep your engine cooler. It's perfectly natural to have more power when your engine is cold. Your engine is much more efficient all around when it's cold than when it's hot. Used too back in HS, when everyone would go racing (Illegal Street Racing Style - just like the Fast-n-Furious ), me and all my buddies would pile into this guys truck and watch all the action while we let our vehicles sit, and we always ran better when we did that than when we had been running the whole time.

If you took the same engine, and ran it hot, and ran it cold, the cold one would run better (E.T. wise or something comparable). I think you understand what I'm saying here...cold engine good - hot engine bad.

Now as far as the sound, don't really know off hand. I have thought before that I've noticed that at certain times, but just kinda grinned at it and went on...

yea man, there is definitely a difference between my morning ride to school (about 60 degrees right now) and the ride home (bout 70-80 degrees) the sound is noticeably deeper. i like it, wish it was like that all the time. i've got a 160 deg stat but my fans aren't turned down for it, the forced air though keeps it just a lil above 170. i think if i get those fans turned down and get a cai installed. it'll be alot better. exhaust is also coming

Remember...cold air is thicker and contains more oxygen than warm air. More oxygen = more power.

October +10hp
November +15hp
December +20hp

hhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmm, maybe I should take a flexible tube and run one end inside the car, right in front of the air conditioner vents, and the other end to the engine/radiator......then turn the A/C to MAX.......just a thought, hehehehe

Actually, the maro wasn't the "car" i was thinking about. It's my '87 s10; and speed wasn't what I was looking for. It overheats, even with the engine shroud i recently put on.
Besides, me was joking, me thinks it be best would to put two lectric fans insted that setup.

Whoops, got the wrong quote, kind of hard to get around on the keyboard when you've got two hooks for hands. And they just HAD to change the format of the website. J/K! I like the new design.
