Starter starting with no key..

Hey guys, I just had my engine all apart in order to change my timing cover gasket. I took the starter off and everything and today i finished installing everything again. I went to put the negative back onto the battery and it sparks and the starter starts making noises like its trying to start lol. Just wondering if anyone has any insight on to how I can fix this or what could have caused this.
Thanks,

Re: Starter starting with no key..

Did you remove the starter?

You may have reversed the wires on it if you did.

Make sure your positive cable isn't grounded out to the chassis and the other grounds are clean and good.
