Sputtering when stomping on the gas?

This week my car started getting this weird sputtering when i step on the gas fast.

It sort of bogs down, stalls for a half a second and then starts again. It doesn't do this if i don't stomp on the gas fast. Its never done this before.

Any ideas?

'99, v6, 3.8, automatic, 99,000 miles.

sounds like maybee a fuel problem? any ses codes

have you done the usual stuff: clean filters & injectors ; maybee new plugs/wires etc., as it is always good to keep up with that

how do i find the ses codes?

i haven't tuned up the car since i got it with 60,000 miles on it. think its time for a tune up, wires and stuff?

now that you mention "fuel" i bet its the fuel filter.

if it has an active code the "service engine" light will show; but if the code is not active (i.e. pending) it will not illuminate...

you can get a actron code reader for about $70 if you want to be able to read them yourself; or autozone etc., will read them for free

p.s. I had a 1997 V6's and it did have a problem with the plug wires wearing out frequentley due to how the were routed around the ex manifold; not sure if the 1999had the same deal, but a tune up is always good

Best of luck

tim

Awesome thanks for the advice. I'll stop by autozone, right around the corner, and see if they can have the codes read.

I'll also check the wires.

I figured out what it was. The Oxygen sensor. I have the dual exhaust magnaflow large pipes and this is making the O2 sensor not work correctly.

Anyone know if this is a difficult fix? I've got it priced at 220.00 from a mechanic. That seems steap to me. The part itself is only 60.00. I'd like to do it myself if its not too difficult.
