Question Speedo is chasing Tach!?

This just started the other day:

When I accelerate the revs go up pretty quick, not too much faster than usual. But, my speed is behind, like it's trying to catch up to the engine. It feels weird.
Anyone know what is causing this?
I hope I explained that right.

Sounds like a slipping clutch (manual) or like your auto trans is slipping. If you've got an auto, check the fluid. Might be low. If you've got a manual, park in a safe area (plenty of room in front of you) with the engine running and parking brake engaged, put the tranny in 5th and let up on the clutch slowly while accelerating. If the car tries to break free of the parking brake- clutch is ok. If the car revs as if in neutral- clutch is starting to go.

Not nesissarily (sp), I replaced a friends 95M5, for the cost of the clutch alone. But thats after the initial cost for the tools and the shop. If you do your own work, it pays for its self in repair costs.

There are some things I can repair myself. Unfortunatly, the clutch isn't one of them.

Is it safe to drive it when the clutch is slipping?
Cause I really need to wash it before I get it fixed.

You can drive it till it slips so much it just doesn't move.

So by driving it I am not at risk of damaging anything else?

If you wear it down too much yoy might get metal on metal and will gouge the **** out of your flywheel...

They might be able to resurface it(which they will have to do anyways) or they might have to replace it.

Clutch/Flywheel

Mustangeater is right on that one. If you run a bad clutch and wear it down enough it will make metal to metal contact against the flywheel which will cause it to become badly damaged. They may try to resurface it but if it is too screwed up you will have to replace it. My suggestion is to get it replaced as soon as possible and save yourself the hassle that it may cause. I know this because the same thing also happened to my car. Another hole in the wallet. Also, I would like to retract my previous statement aobut the clutch. Your right, it doesnt cost TOO much for the part alone, its the labor that gets you because its a pain in the *** and most people cant do it.

had the same isssue, I didnt let it go untill the metal grinding, just untill it would sit in gear at red lights for a few seconds before grabing. Clutch ran me about 600.00 installed. I had a shop i could do it in and the clutch itself can be had for under 300 bucks, But it quit on me the day before finals at my college so i lacked the time to put it in and needed my car. So i knew a guy at the trans shop who got me a discount in the price and got it done in a feew hours.

$900+ later. I have a new clutch. Thanks O' Rielly Chevrolet Service Department.

Well, at least now I can focus on getting my Sprint Springs and Bilstein HD's installed.

EDIT: I don't like the feel of the new clutch, it feels like I'm pressing on nothing. I can't hardly feel it.
