friend nuked his engine so he put a "high flow" oil pump in his new 3.4L ... now when he's driving down the road the oil pressure is way past the dash gage.

what are the long or short term affects of very very high oil pressure?

Pump only? I'm not too sure that was such a wise move...should have gotten a bigger pan.

Is Mike Pegging the guage?

has he tried another guage(Like his old one or the one that came with the motor)

He might get some leaks soon.

MY old 3.4L used to read pretty high, past 3/4 on cold but once warmed up about 1/2 and peaked to 3/4. This was with a new sensor, so it was accurate.

yeah huge one, but were completely dead, I was running dead rich...

I gained back .4(lost that much) in the 1/4, and went form 12/17 mpg to 20/25 mpg Course they were the stockers, that were 7 years old and had 105k on them.

i have no piston rings left in my towncar, and i have oil getting past my distributer into my rotor cap. i was told this was caused by the high oil pressure of not having good compression.

not 100% tho

I just put a mechanical oil pressure gauge in my 88 Camaro. It's got a rebuilt 3.4L in it now..... warmed up and at idle it's ~50psi. Near redline is almost pegging the 100psi gauge. Motor has ~6500 miles on it and does fine. Hope that helps some at least...
