SES light
I have an SES light that comes on sometimes on the freeway and then goes back off. I trid to get Autozone to read it, but they said it had to be on when i came in. IS this true? One time I stopped with it on but their scanner kept saying "link error"
Also, why does it come on, then go back off?
any ideas? this is frustrating, has beeen going on for over one year.
Thanks

you need a separate connector. keep in mind an SES light only comes on if there's a fuel or emission related problem...look in your owner's manual, and it will give you a little (simplified) list of things that will set your ses light

that is messed up. i would think there's an autotap type of program out there for the 3.8 obdi cars...maybe check out www.akmcables.com there are a lot of good links there

most people that have this problem, it ends up being the EGR valve. mine does this every now and then, but i am not about to spend 200 bucks replacing it. on the autozone thing i have no idea what's wrong.
First, the 3.4s need to be read by a scanner, I got a refurbished one from www.autocheckup.com
Second, it sounds like the EGR valve. Now before you replace the EGR, which is expensive, replace the tube going from the EGR to the intake. it is like $20, and tends to be what causes the error. because it is not smooth and it is bent the tube starts to get gunk on the inside and narrows (think of a heart artery and cholesterol, hence the CARdiac sig). I had the same symptoms and replaced the EGr, but continued to get the codes. I cleaned my tube (soaked it overnight and scrubbed the heck out of it) and the codes disappeared for a while but came back.....the time I spent cleaning the darn thing was worth more than $20.
Just my $0.02, hope it helps.
