which series flowmaster?

I have the 3.8L Camaro and I need to know which series flowmaster to go with. Also, can i just cut the old muffler off and put the flowmaster on, or do I have to run all new piping from the catalytic coverter back? I am hoping I can just put the new muffler on, and then run 2 new pipes for the outlet from the muffler. Thanks for the time fellas. I am not famaliar with exhaust systems on cars, only trucks. lol, everything is so cramped up under a car!

They make a camaro specific 40 series, with dual outlets. Thats your best bet. An exhaust shop canjust hook it right up to your stock piping if you want.

Most popular Flowmaster with our cars are the 80 series. You CAN just add the muffler but I don't think you'll be happy with the sound/performance.

Flowmaster w/ stock piping = raspy

Flowmaster w/bigger piping = nice

ok, so I would have to do a complete catback system using 3" piping? How much would that cost (ballpark)? And that would be with the 80 series flowmaster. How much in all do you think this would cost?

also, are there any other brand mufflers that sound just as good that cost less than the flowmaster?

YOu don't have to change the I pipe but if it stock I'd go with at least 2 1/2" for deeper sound and better gains.

As far as clearance: make sure to put the rear on ramps There still isn't much room though.

I think 40 series is better for a Mustang than our v6's. The DELTA 40 series flow that I have (which is single in/out) is mellow and quieter but around 2000 rpms the nice gurgle smoothes out too much and it sounds higher in pitch, almost like a honda-to me anyway.
I haven't heard the ORIGINAL 40 series flow but haven't heard many good things about it.

You can go with the American Thunder, here http://www.onestopexhaust.com/detail.cfm?menu_id=9541

E-mail or PM me, I have a complete audio folder of what a 1998 V6 Camaro with a 40 series muffler sounds like. Good digital quality sound files.
I have idle, start up, revving, Redline.

I personally think the flowmaster 40 is the best sounding muffler that will get you noticed, and thats completely stock otherwise. Howerver, you can do better by swapping stuff out. The only thing I can see that are drawbacks are the drone, which I really don't mind, and the occasional cackle when revving down.

they have a sound sample for a 3.8L firebird, I would imagine that would sound the same on my 3.8L camaro.

Exclamation

Dynomax makes a crossflow muffler that goes for less than the Flowmaster. Jeg's gets anywhere from $73 to $80 for a OEM fit Flowmaster, Dynomax's for like $50.

Just take your time and look around at the different sites. You're sure to find what your looking for.

Captain, I think you gave me that Message by accident.

I've done that before once when I hit the Quote marks and it was the wrong quote-which I didn't notice until later. lol.

I'd like to know the difference between 40 Delta and other systems. Most people around here are stock, except for mustangs and 4 bangers. But fbodies-stock.

That sample sounds a bit too strong for the 3.8L, so I happen to click on the 5.7L and it is the exact same sound wav. So don't be fooled. You're 3.8 will not sound like that.

Contact me if you want to hear what it will sound like after being broke-in.

I want to know how it sounds. I'm thinking about getting that exhaust from Flowmaster, the one with the resonator.

You can PM me if you want to keep your address off the web. If not, I'm on AIM - same handle.

I can send it on AIM, or E-mail it, whichever you prefer.

You can always give Summit a call, they not only have full cat backs but they also stock the pieces too. A 2 1/2 Int. pipe is like $70. Just ask for the one used in Dynomax LT1 cat backs.
