Make sure the key isn't wet or dirty.

I don't know how to get around it. I know mine did it to me once, I used the spare and then the original and it was fine.

Good luck though...

Sometimes a wet or dirty key or if its not properly seated in the cylander it can cause that. If it comes on while your driving or happens freqently you most likely will need to have a new key cut with your VIN number at a GM dealer. There is a way to disable the system by putting a certain resistor in the line of the system, but i dont know the details on that procedure.

You could take one of the keys and your VIN# to the dealer. If the dealers decoder can't read the key then you give them your VIN#. If that doesn't work I would run a search on by passing it because I remember reading some one found out what resistance there key was (that thing in your key is just a resistor) then they went to radio shack and got the resistors that added up to the resistance on the key. You can add resistors to each other that way, example: 110ohm resistor+94ohm resistor+12ohm resistor=216ohms of resistance. The ohms are pretty low though on our keys and the resistors you buy to add up to that number don't have to add up to that exact number but be pretty close. Thats all I remember from that thread. I don't know where you hook up the resistors (would imagine some where in the steering column).
