Scared of New Sound With New Muffler...
Scared of Not Liking Sound With New Muffler...
I got this free 40 series Flowmaster that I want to put on. I'm fairly sure, being the nature of a v6, it will sound ricey at WOT or even above 3k RPM's. I'm scared that I'll hate it, and will have to go back to the muffler shop with my tail between my legs and ask them to put the stock muffler on. So I got the idea that was reccomended by many, of putting either a Dynomax Bullet Muffler or a Dynomax Thrush Glasspack in the I-pipe to reduce rasp. I asked my brother about it, and he says that I don't want to do that, it will be too quiet. He does know a thing or two, but at the same time he makes himself out to know more than he really does...
So what do you think I should do? I'm broke right now, so it won't happen for a little while. I'm open to all suggestions, I got plenty from Firebirdv6.com, now I want to know what cz28.com people think.

Re: Scared of New Sound With New Muffler...
Mostly I'm looking for people that have had experience with a Bullet or glasspack in addition to an aftermarket muffler. There were some good answers on the thread about 3.4L exhausts...but I need more info on my planned setup.
Re: Scared of New Sound With New Muffler...
3.4 > 3.8 in terms of sound with any aftermarket exhaust
With that said, there is no way to get around the v6 sound.
I would not advise going with a glasspack...that would produce the sound you are trying to avoid.
I have no personal experience with the in-line bullet, though some have had good results.
Since the muffler is free, I say for for it. You can always take it off...so what if you have to take it back to the shop. Better taking it back than living with an exhaust you don't like.

(and really has no relevance to this thread.)As far as the original question, I ran an 80 series on my 3.4, and while it was a little raspy in the higher rpms, I still preferred having a little bit of sound rather than the whisper quiet stock muffler. I've never heard a 40 series personally, but I've been told they don't sound too much different from an 80 series. I say go for it
Re: Scared of New Sound With New Muffler...
I had a friend that put a 40 series on his 94 V6 Camaro, and dumped it right out of the muffler, instead of running a tail pipe from it. I was VERY impressed with the sound. It reminded me of a little V-8. I say go for it. Oh, I forgot to mention that one of the baffles had been removed from the muffler, so that might have added to the good sound of it. The weld holding the baffle broke so it had to be cut out.

Doesn't matter for me tho, because it's just a daily driver, I hardly ever go over 2,500 rpms.
Re: Scared of New Sound With New Muffler...
I would run it, the Flowmasters have always sounded pretty good on the v6s that I've heard. I wouldn't worry about running additional mufflers in the I-pipe, you dont want to cork the exhaust up too much as you might end up losing some hp then.
