rev limiter

1998 Camaro 3.8L

I cant rev past 4000rpms in park and cant go past 2000 with the brake down, and cant burnout because of it.

I've heard that with the SES light on the car runs in some sort of safety mode and puts limiters on some things..

My SES light is only on because of my removed cat.. I've tried buying the JET Stg 2 chip and it didnt take the limiters off..

If I buy a o2 sim / sensor will my rev limiter be taken off?

The SES Code it throws is low cat effeciency .. b/c i dont have a cat.. but im planning on getting a o2 sim soon to remove the code.

Re: rev limiter

P/N rev limiter is at 4k stock.

There is no rev limiter that ties into the brake. (Put the car in first gear, run it up to 4000 rpm, then tap the brake. Does it immediately drop to 2000rpm? No.)

Re: rev limiter

THEN DONT BURNOUT! They are a waste of tires. Maybe you are having tranny problems, thats why you cant rev past 2000rpm with the brake on, because you do burnouts.

Great way to **** up your car.

I'm not saying that you are a liar, I just letting you know that your car is messed up in some other way. Even with your 3.08 gears, you *should* be able to spin a rear tire if you wanted to.

There is NO rev limiter built into your factory computer that engages when you use your brake.

My SES light will come on and go off whenever it sees fit...usually when I am going back home from my apartment it will do one or the other...depending...but right now it is on and I wanted to see if mine would limit my rpms and I was able to go above 2k. It may be whatever is causing your SES light to come on...I would get it scanned just to be sure there isn't something other than your lack of a cat, setting it off...

YOU ARE NOT A LIAR, YOUR CAR DOES NOT MAKE ENOUGH POWER TO SPIN THE WHEELS WITH THE BRAKES DOWN.

Reason... your car has issues, one is likely your a/f ratio is messed up since you cutted your CAT and don't have an o2 sim. Like said several times before.

THE ONLY ways I can think off to fix your problem off the top of my head...

-Get a cat(with some highflow cats, you will still have the same problem)
- get a post cat o2 sim
-Get hptuners(possibley DHP but I don;t think they been released yet) and remove the code and manually reconfigure the computer to run without the cat.

If your not planning on running juice, I'd consider just getting a CAT, it doesn't not affect your power.

the "park" limiter is there so you don't accidently "blow" your motor in park or neutral. No reason to go above 2k in park or neutral in an auto unless you are trying to "look cool" and show off your raspy exhaust.

NExt time you try to do a burnout, do it in water or on a sandy concrete, bet the one tire fire lights up with ease.
