1993 v6
1993 v6
Ok im interested in buying a manual 3.4l camaro at a near buy dealership. First of all is this a quick car? Second is this a good car as in being reliable? How much hp does this car put out in stock form? Thanks in advance.
Re: 1993 v6
This thread will probably get moved, but I'll answer for you anyway.
The 3.4 has 160HP, enough to get you around town with a bit of zip, but it's no horsepower powerhouse. The 3.4s are known to be very reliable and can take a substantial beating.
It's for the fuel economy and reliability end of the spectrum.

Re: 1993 v6
Um, I wouldn't use the word fast to describe it. I had a 93 V6 automatic, it lasted me 196,000 miles with no major problem engine or transmission, just the seals were leaking (minor) and the oil pan needed to be replaced. I totaled it, that's the only reason it is no longer around. They come with 160hp stock. Now adays that isn't $hit, you will be stuck racing ricers and even at that if they are not before 2002 or so you will be losing to them. I consistently ran 10.54 at 64mph in the 1/8 with mine, I had B&B Catback Exhaust, !ram air, K&N FIPK, Accel 300+ 9mm Race Wires, and Bosch Platinum +4 Plugs, 3.23 gears and an automatic. Hope that helps you out.

thats ok with me right now I just want a car thats faster than my n/a 2.3 mustang but still is cheap on gas my mustang is to slow but is in excellent condition and is excellent on gas. Anyway I think Im going to get the camaro. At least it can be modified to go faster and put out over a 100hp in stock form. Thanks for all the replies.

if u could get a 3.8L, its a much better engine, more reliable, more efficient, more powerful...
having said that, the 3.4L was a fine daily driver... (plus, they sound better than the 3.8L with an exhaust... but both dont sound 'good')

Re: 1993 v6
For not much more, you can find yourself a decent 3.8L.
160 HP (3.4) vs. 200 HP (3.8)
I can't speak on the reliablity of the 3.4 personally, but my 3.8L has been near bulletproof.

3.4 is a good car. The 3.8 came in 96, unless u can find the near impossible 95 that was produced in cali., the price range is not alot, but my friend best mpg was 28 in his 99 3.8 , where i have got 32 mpg on an interstate 400 mile drive. many times mind you. They are both a good engine, but if the price is right and its nice, i think u will be happy! (plus the 3.4 sounds better !!)
Good Luck!

I have one, it's got 100k on it and it's great. The only problems I've had with it is the crank position sensor. It's got 160 hp, and gets pretty good gas milage. With a manual transmission it will get even better gas milage and IMO, its more fun to drive.
< Owns a 1994 Camaro 3.4L with 5 speed.

i owned one, i loved it, luckily its still in my family, but, yes, i prefer my 3.8L, why? cuz its a newer car, with a LOT less miles on it (well, not anymore
)... its faster and does get slightly better fuel economy, but thats purely technology doing that, the 3.8L was one of GM's best engines of recent times, having said that, i had not one problem with the 3.4L, very good engine, very nice car, good fuel economy, sounds better than the 3.8L, and has a good amount of power (lots of low end torque comparred to the 3.8L)...the only reason why 3.8L > 3.4L, is becuase the car is newer, no other reason, i like new cars... hence why i made the change....
good luck either way (if i werre u, i'd find the newest car possible, within reason)
