Removing MAF screen?

I took apart my throttle body ('97 3.8L) today and cleaned it for the first time. I noticed that its different from my brother's '95 3.4L. I have a screen infront of the blade, I believe this is called the MAF screen but i'm not sure. I've also heard of people removing this screen. Are there any benefits to doing this? If so how would I go about removing it?

you will get mixed reactions about this mod. a lot people say there are no gains or they see problems develop on there car. if you want a smooth idle at stop lights and things like that, leave it in. I personally saw a gain in mine when i did it and no difference in idle at all. my friend also removed his and luckily same results. its only a minor increase but something is something. if it is like my maf screen, just pop the ring around it out, get two paperclips, place one on top, one on bottom, and pull so you wont mess it up. try it, dont like it, pop it back in

I took it off on the Z and noticed no difference at all in idle quality or horsepower. Not sure what would happend with the 3.8 though.
