Reliability with 159k miles... what to do???
Reliability with 159k miles... what to do???
ok my daily driver is a 1996 camaro v-6
anyhow.. it has 159k miles on it.. been pretty good since we have had it since it had 3 miles (to which we put 2 of them on in test driving)
ok gas mileage... 23mpg highway...
anyhow... gm decided to put this stupid piece of crap plastic on the lower heater core hose... it blew and I was stranded... and forgot my cell at home... so it was a bad day... was tired to as this was after lifting georges blazah.....
so I have no car payments and liability on 3 vehicles.. so that is nice... but i think the camaro is going to start nickle and diming me....
so GM still has their employee discount...
myself and wife like the camaro... so doing a search for $18k I can get a 2002 camaro z-28, t-tops, leather, automatic (wife cant drive a stick)... so a good choice...
however I can get a 2005 chevy silverado 1500 Z-71 extended cab 4wd with the options I want for $33k - employee discount = $25k
get $1k for camaro (via bro in laws friend) $2k on gm card = $23k @ $397 a month...
however if I can get them to drop the price 2k (doubt it) but the payments would be $359 a month... that is where I need to be...
the only other alternatives is a 2005 GTO for $32k which is gonna be high on payments....
I gotta keep it cheap as the wife is in college and not working at the moment... so household income is low.....

went there..
$33k chevy silverado z-71 extended cab 4x4 loaded...
employee discount down to $25k...
sounds good thus far
they will only give me $100 for the camaro.. but I know I can get $1000
plus $2000 gm points...
so
33k down to 25k - 2k - 1k = 22k
pay tax and tags out of my pocket.....
came to $485 @ 60 months and $465 @ 72 months..
ok so lets look at that for a second...
$485x60 = $29,100
$465x72 = $33,480
hmmmm someone is not doing something right....
so tey are screwin people out there..
im just going to freshen up the camaro and wifes jimmy for less than car payments....
or there is a 2002 z-28 i have my eyes on... if mine was a z I would keep it...
Re: Reliability with 159k miles... what to do???
well..... now the drivers side window switch has gone... so now need to replace pw switch....
gonna keep her... just pressure washed my truck and seems that the camaro is puking in the driveway....

BTW my car has 159,000 miles too. Though it doesn't look like it at all. I think my low blue book is $5500. Why is your's only $1k? What is wrong with it?

Trade-In Value List Your Car For Sale Online $1,530
Trade-in Value is what consumers can expect to receive from a dealer for a trade-in vehicle assuming an accurate appraisal of condition. This value will likely be less than the Private Party Value because the reselling dealer incurs the cost of safety inspections, reconditioning and other costs of doing business.
even at Good condition it is only worth $2145
now retail the dealer could get if in mint... and as a starting asking price is $5100.....hmmm im gonna have to bring that up and get the guy to get me a better deal.. he wanted to give me $100 for the car... up his...
well talking to the wife... this weekend we went camping and im going to go back and try a blue 2500 chevy pickup.. 4 door diesel....
im not too worried about mpg as if I get the diesel there is a $800 kit in time I would get... then you run off of cooking oil.... (some diesel but mainly cooking oil)... so gotta get my contacts for free cooking oil then the kit and viola.... no need to stop at the pump (much...)
