racing an automatic
racing an automatic
i know this is probably gonna sound dumb but i have no idea how to race an automatic. i read all these different posts of stalling then hitting 1,2, then so on. i just leave mine in od and drive it. is there a special technique you use? any help would be appreciated. thanks
Put it in D, not OD. When you get staged press the brake firmly and hold it, press the gas to around 1500 RPM or until the back end of the car raises up a little bit. Then go. I wouldnt recommed shifting yourself, just put it in D
Power braking it will just allow you to launch at a higher RPM, therefore getting you off a little quicker...these cars have great throttle response, but look at it like this -
The power doesn't really kick in good in these cars in first until the higher RPM range, so the quicker you get there, the better off you are...also, because your engine is already turning at this higher RPM, the power is also sitting there waiting to be turned loose, and this happens when you let off the brakes.
Best advice I could give you is to test launch until you can actually fell/tell the difference. If you brake at too high of an RPM, you are gonna bog down, that's why Josh suggested 1500...and unless you really figure out the optimal shift points, then I too would suggest leaving it in drive and going for it. Of course, with the 3.4's you can just leave it in first and it will redline every gear for you before shifting...(that's real good for the whole drivetrain
)
Edit: A Trans Brake locks the transmission until you release it (with a button), when it then releases all the power than is coming out of the torque converter to the rear wheels.
