Question on exhaust manifold part? ECG?

My friend has a 95' 3.4 firebird and SES light was coming on. When he went to get it scanned, they said it was the ECG(emissions control gauge) which is whatever that thing is thats mounted on the passanger side exhaust manifold. Anywayz, this is my first post in here, I have LT1 and i thought it might be possible to just get rid of this thing, like EGR mods for the lt1 cars?

So any advice on this? The part is kinda expensive, so want the cheapest solution.......

its a computer glitch in some of the 3.4L's i had an ses light for 4 years from EGR solenoid #2&3 malfunctioning... then i removed the bulb from the gauge cluster

ive never heard of the EGR called the ECG before

it os the egr, and it is a pita. Here is my suggestion. Before replacing the EGR, which is $100-300, i would replace the tube that runs from the egr to the intake. it is $20, and our problems tend to stem from the poor design (curved AND coregated).

The reason for replacing the tube 1st. I dropped the $$$ for a new egr and continued to get the ses codes. I soaked the tube in carbon cleaner and scrubbed the h*ll out of it (or as my name implies, angioplasty'd it). The codes disappeared for quite some time, but did come back. I just ordered the the pipe to replace it. If you need picts, let me know via email and I will take some for you.

BTW, I have been driving for years with the ses light coming on, it is annoying but does not harm the car.....if they scan your car for codes to pass emissions, clear the memory before taking it in (disconnect the battery for 5 minutes).
