Question Question about 18" tire size??

I just won a set of 18" Z06 wheels they are 18X9.5 . I am being a cheap A$$ about tires. I want to go with a 245/40ZR18 by Kumho Ecsta Supra 712, out the door road hazard and lifetime balance and rotate is 655. My buddy says that 245's are to skinny for 9.5 inches. The tire guide said that 245's WILL fit a 9.5" rim. he thinks i should 275/35's which are about 200 dollars more. I am trying to get a good set of tires for a low price. My buddy says try to get those yokohama AVS dB S2 which are about 30 more dollars a tire but have a tread wear rating of 320 vs the Kumho's @ 280. Does that much tread wear rating matter. I have been to tires.com and tirerack.com. Tirerack offers road hazzard but charges shipping. Tires.com offers no road hazzard and NO shipping. Lose Lose situation. The 655 i quoted was a local joint here in town. So Help me out as much as Y'all can, Thanks

Higher tread rating = longer lasting tire

The 245 WILL fit but it will probably not look right. The rim will probably stick out more than the tire, which will look dumb.

I personally recommend tirerack...I've used them before and have had no problems. I think they have a special right now on some Yokohamas...not sure if they are the same tire you are looking at, but I think they are.

I say spend the extra cash...if you didn't want to spend the cash, shouldn't have gotten 18s.

Good luck.

[unanimous]GET THE 275s[/unanimous]

245s are way to skinny for 18x9.5 the extra $200 will be well worth it. i have 255/50s on my stock 16s and they look just about perfect fit for the rim.

If you have 18" all the way around, use 275 all around. The actual equation converts 9" to 285mm but 275-315 will do. After 315 (if you happen to find such a wide tire) and you will rub going over bumps.

In reality, unless you are racing over 315mm isn't worth it IMO.

245s are pretty thin for a set of wheels that 9.5 across. No offense but you won't gain much by having softer tires, but all the cool looking treads come on the softer tires. I had yokohama 275s put on the back of the SS last week, it looks real mean. Tirerack.com is the best place I have seen for buying tires.
