i have a 98 a4 camaro. i like playin with the gears. i have 1 2 d od n etc... is it ok to downshift from d -2-1 or could i screw up my trans by doing that??? and another question my friend has a 2000 a4 bird and he doesnt have od so his goes 1 2 3 d n etc... and i like the fact of having control of the 3rd gear, how could i make mine like that, or is that impossible with me having od???

 

if you want control of the gears put in a manual trans

You will screw up your tranny if you shift into 1 doing anythign over 30. Its probably a bad idea to shift them down. However, if your at a redlight, and shift up(1,2,D,od,) then you should be fine doing that.

 

Your D is the same as 3rd. Down shifting isn't good for the car.

 

thanx for the info, alot of times ill start in first and shift to second but have to slow down too like 10-15 mph and **** down into first....but if it hurts the tranny then ill just stop doing that.

 

I messed up my first car doing stuff like that, lesson learned? LEAVE IT IN DRIVE!

I only use any of the other gears If I am driving on heavy hills or in snow.

The 1,2,3,D is the same as
1,2,D,OD
