You can send it in to have changes made to those that have the correct knowledge/software to do so however.
They don't make a "chip" because that's OBD1 and in some rare instances OBD1/2 crossbreeds. You don't want a "chip" anyhow, they are mostly lame ducks and not customisable at all.

I am pretty sure 96 is obdII
there is really nothing out of their but from what I understand, the 97 pcm goes in easily, no problem.
and I know there is at least hptuners, and DHP for the 97 pcm...

Like I said, you can send the old ones in and they will use the current one as a core and program a later model control module (yes usually 97) with their software.
