P1406 DTC code question
P1406 DTC code question
HI, I had a SES light come on a few weeks back and it read P0441 & P1406 on a 97 V6 firebird.. I started with the P0441 and guessed that it was the purge valve or switch so I replaced both for and then cleared the code.. so all is fixed ... yeah right
the good news is the P0441 went away permantley but only the P1406 (EGR pintle) came back on for about a day and then went back of on it's own.. is it possible that these codes are related and if I don't replace the $200 EGR valve that most likely in a few weeks of driving I will again be having problems?? or is it more likely that they were completely different things??? ... I have heard the P1406 is not really a problem with the EGR but that the computer is not just reading it perfectly so throws the code..
any help would be greatly appreciated for a newbee here..

Re: P1406 DTC code question
I have been told by many mechanics that our EGR system has test codes programmed into it. That if strange codes pop up, its probably just the test codes not working right. You can delete the codes with a PCM tune and shut it off completely so you wont have to worry about EGR again. Besides, EGR only operates at or around 40mph. something a sniffer wont detect. -Tim
