My buddy has a 3.4 95 camaro. He just bought it and wanted to change the mud/coolant. So we drained it and flushed it as much as we could with the hose and I have one of the funnels that attaches to the radiator fill so that while the engine runs air can bubble out. Air bubbled out and temp stayed 180-190 but then all of a sudden temp climbed and funnel over flowed. I let it cool off and then started it up but bubbles never stopped coming out of the funnel. Today the temp gauge would randomly go to 200+ then come down while driving. Possible bad thermostat? Thanks in advance for any ideas.
not quite sure I understood your problem.. but I had a 95 3.4 a while back and the thermostat went bad and caused some wired issues around 60K… anyways the thermostat is an easy and inexpensive fix so it couldn't hurt and then a good clean / flush with the gunk would probably be useful as you said "change the coolant sludge"

I guess to summarize my problem is I think that it is overheating and im not sure that I got all the air out of it. I let it run for about 20 min. and still saw bubbles. And why, when it was idleing, did the temp start to climb suddenly and overflow the funnel?
is the radiator fan blowing air on it when its idling as I remember on my 95 the actual motor that turns the fan died out.. only other thing that comes to mind is possibly the coolant is not getting to the block properly, clogged passages or whatnot?? couldn't hurt to flush a few more times to ensure all of the mud coolant is out.

I left work one day, drove no more than 2 miles, and the car had overheated. replaced the thermostat, filled it back up, ran it at idle in my driveway for 10 minutes, no problems. Drove 10 miles to work, and the car overheated again.
I took it home, added some more coolant, started it up, and let it idle. In about 2 minutes I had a noticeable puddle in my driveway. My coolant is going out the exhaust!?
Could this be as simple as an intake manifold gasket? I've heard that they go bad on 3.4s. I don't want to tear into it and find a cracked head, or a more serious problem; I'd prefer to do a motor swap. Let me know what you think.

I'll try a search to see if my memory is working today
edit: searched through and it doesn't appear that the intake gasket shows up as much on the 3.4 as it does on the 3.8 but it looked like a few randoms here and there..

If you havnt figured it out yet.... with the car cold, pull you temp sensor on the Dr. side head, fill the radiator slowly till it starts coming out the sensor hole... *** like I said pour slowly *** less time burning coolant off your exhaust manifold. then clean the threads on the temp sensor, put some thread tape on it and put it back in. Top off the radiator let it sit for 20 minutes or so to level off, start it and it should be pretty much full, make sure and add extra to your recovery tank, that should suck in and equalize what little will be left. I always let it get to temp and open the thermostat then shut it off an let it cool down and top it off again and usually dont have any problems out of it. Sounds like a long process but everybody thats done a flush or stat knows how long it takes to just let it burp itself.
