OK to put straight pipe in place of CC?

I'm relectant to do this, put I don't want to pay $200 for a hi-flow +install. Will it mess my car up if I do this?

PS. I just put on 245/50/16s in place of 215/60/16s. Is my speedo off at all?

i did it. didnt do much for me at the track either. the car sounded a little different, but you really have to listen to it with a stethascope to tell the difference. i did it all. straight pipe, gutted cat, hi flow cat.
if you put a straight pipe you will need to get an o2 simm. or you will get an SES light. thats really no big deal- i drove around with an ses light for months.

Your speedometer is off, but not by much. If I remember right, its only like 1-2%. No big deal...

If you get busted for the straight pipe...its $$$. I almost got caught with it on my Stealth. Wasn't fun.

straight pipe cossting money if you get busted?

Its jsut a improper equipment ticket, $60, or you get a court date, judge asks is it fixed you say yep, show a receipt and off on your way.

I got one for improper exhaust, and no problems.

You will not pass emissions, you might notice againe, but not over a hi-flo CAT, jsut the gines of having a CAT thats roughly 9 years old cleared out.

i say go with the straight pipe. cheaper than a high flow and will sound a tad deeper if anything. like i said before, i got no gains from it at the track. but i want to know where the speedometer came into play.

Go for it, it will sound nice.
I was driving down my road one day with my RS and the muffler fell off, the pipe rusted through and it was hanging on by a strap that I cut and rubber mount that I kick at it some and sliped off from, I draged it in a dich and came back for it later after it cooled.
It sounded real nice with out a muffler and I would have kept it like that but the inspection was all ready out of date.
With out the pipe conected to any thing it kind of bounced around under the car.
No cat is a nice thing.
