odd acceleration

I have a 97 3.8 with an automatic the car seams ok when i first start driving accelerates fine but as soon as I stop at a light for the first time it just doesnt want to accelerate. I was running low on fluid so I topped it back up hoping that would help but its still not working properly anyone know what this could be? i know i will likely have to take it in to be looked at but i just want to have some idea what might be wrong.

It can;t start out in 3rd or 4th, it would stall, Try putting it in first manually at stop and shift it maunally all the way though OD while accerlating, see what it does. IF you think it might damage itself just take it to an Ammco or a transmission shop
