no o2 sensor bad?

So i was messin around under my car, and i pulled out the o2 sensor by the cat. Just for the hell of it, i wanted to see if it'd set off my ses light, so i turned the car on. It did not set off the ses, but i noticed my exhaust had a louder, deeper tone than with the 02 sensor in. I thought this was wierd since its just a very tiny hole thats being opened, but i really liked the sound. Would it hurt anything to leave the o2 sensor out? My ses light isnt coming on, the the only bad thing i could think of would be that the exhaust fumes would be under the car, but this happens when you have a cut-out anyways. Basically, it is like a cut out, a very very small one lol.

So yea, will it hurt anything? i dont think it would but i just wanted to make sure

Re: no o2 sensor bad?

Which o2 sensor was it, before the cat, or after?

The one before that cat controls the amount of fuel that is injected under part throttle situations, without it you will run very rich, get really crappy milage, and burn up your cat. The one after the cat is only there to make sure that the cat is working, but you will eventually get a SES with it not there, unless you get the code turned off with tuning software like HPTuners.

you started the car with the O2 sensor hooked up and not in the bung? its probably toast now

and you will throw a code pretty soon if its not hooked up

why would it toast it?

I put it back in btw. It ended up having a horribly raspy sound under load.
