need some opinions

ok, my brother has a 3000GT and he recently had a new timing belt put on....about a day after that, he started hearing a knocking/clattering noise coming from under the hood and when he took it back to the place that installed the timing belt, they told him he had a rod knocking....anyways, he posted about it on 3si.org, and they thought the timing belt was put on incorrectly and it was valves knocking and the shop was using the rod knock as a cover up....just wanted some outside opinions on what you guys think it is....thanks for any input.

Yup....it does sound like something went together wrong.

You don't have no rod knock....change the belt........and get rod knock....thats impossible.

Thing is......his engine is probably WASTED now.

If the belt was off, and that noise is the valves hittting the piston................its all over with.

Does it sound like detonation "marbles in a can" ??? And when does it do it??? all the time??? at wot???

Give us some details....

Usually this would be off-topic here, but I'll let it slide....being as how its a v-6 anyways .......from the other side of the pond

yep alot of what he said, you do not get a rod knock our of no where, and the clattering, does it sound like alot of stuff clattering?

When I shattered a piston and one of my rods was sjut flopping around in the cylinder only made noise when the cylinder moved so a only one clank at a time, not alot of stuff together.

If they did it wrong very good chance they are trying ot cover up so they do not ahve to pay for rebuild or new motor to there stupidity.

thanks for the replies....my bro finds out tomorrow what's wrong w/ it...he had it towed to a shop to get it looked at. the thing is, the motor runs fine when it's on, there's just a clicking/clattering noise in addition....so there's no misfireing or anything like that happening....the motor runs smooth w/ the exception of that sound. do you think it could be valves then? thanks again for the input.

Could be. No matter what it was, they F'ed it up, so they should fix it.
