port and polishing your heads is simply removing your heads, laying a gasket on it, tracing it with a scribe or something that will leave a mark. Then, patiently sitting in a chair with safety glasses, and a couple cases of beer with a dremel tool or die grinder......slowly boring out the ports to the lines where you traced. You'll notice the difference.....

Woah, wait a minute. It is alot more than that if you expect to see good gains. What you are talking about is gasket matching, etc. The real gains are in the ports, bowl area, and around the valve.

he is right about there bieng alot more to it than just grinding away metal. i know this because it is part of my job. you could try reading back issues of magazines or buy a book from summit. even this is just a sample of the things that you need to know about porting. if you want it done professionaly then email me.

Thanks for setting me straight. I had mine professionally done so I was kinda in the dark. A few guys from work told me that I was stupid for having it done because all they did was grind away metal. Shows what they know, and me for that matter.......live and learn I guess.

There is a lot of technical skill that goes into a GOOD P&P job. A set of heads that it ported wrong will flow horribly and somtimes hurt performance.

About how much does it cost to have heads p&p professionaly? Where would you go to do that? What kind of gains in the 1/4 will you see?

When I had mine done, they were $700 for the P&P job with the lower intake match ported and polished at the same time. At the time, I thought this was pretty expensive, but now that I researched it, that's about the going rate for a job where the person knows what they are doing. You can probably find some people that will do it cheaper, but the quality of the work will probably not be as good.

When they did my heads, they also recut the valve seats and polished the combustion chambers....if you want more info, click the link to my car below and it will detail the work done.
