hello i have a 95 3.4l..the other day i pulled up in my drive way and shifted to park (auto tran)..but to my surprise my car stared going into reverse, no park, neutral is now drive and sometimes reverse is neutral or reverse...i dont know what the prob is..i took aprt the center console but i dont realy know what to look for..can anyone tell me what can cause this prob and what i can do to resolve it..thx for ur time

 

it sounds like the cable has gone bad on you, look on the side of the trans were the cable goes though the bracket it has a clip on both sides of the bracket and see if you can move the cable though the bracket with out the outer piece moving at all, or just side up under the car and have a buddy move the shifter while you watch everthing move . The clip that is there for adjusting the shifter will strip out causing this problem.
