Angry Must turbo charge

I'm going over seas soon and am taking my 91 3.1 and am leaving the IROC Z at home.
Want send most of my money home to have the IROC worked on.
I'm takeing a pair of 1/2 ported cylinder heads (from my last 2.8 motor that I killed)and some ground out exhaust manifolds over with the car.
I could put together head, exhaust manifold, and turbo and take my time with it and bolt it on when the time is right.
How much inter cooled boost could I run on a near stock internal engine?
I don't want to run a lot of boost 6psi at the very most.
I'm looking for a low boost home grown set up with a bone yard charger and hard ware store plumbing with some radiator hose and exhaust pipe.
I may even be able to pull a turbo charger off some thing back home from some one that owes me a (working) 2.8L among other things.
If not, will be in germany and it shouldn't be to hard to find a spare turbo charger on some thing.
With a bigger cam and some boost can the stock computer, MAF, MAP and other sencors figure out what is hapening in side the engine?
Maybe even stick in an after cooler to run ice water through for speical events.
Turbo RS
I all ready posted this on forced induction and on one touched it and I did a high light ,copy and paste here.

cool

I had many turbo thoguths on my 3rd gen, hell when I rtrashed my 2.8L i was loking deeply into a turbo 3.4L, I think it woudl be easier since ytou have mroe room to work with.

jsut a thoguht on a trubo, not sure of hte name but its on turbo 4 banger, 80s cougars, and 80s stangs, its a decent all around low power turbo form what I ahve heard. Stock internals I think may be able to take a little more then 6 psi, if it is inter cooled, but the down all is cast aluminum pistons.

good luck.

Among the "all most stock" I mentioned, I was thinking a 230 duration cam with up to .480''lift and some cast hypurstalgic (or how ever you spell it) pistons.
I know when doing a cam change in one of these cars you can spend 3-4 hours taking off the frount of the car or 4 hours taking the engine out.
I was thinking I could over haul it with every thing but new cam bearings do a bore hone for the new pistons and rings, new oil HV pump and some other stuff.

Cool

If your going turbo on a 2.8, forget the stock bottom end. My wife and I are working on our own turbo 2.8 project, but there is only gonna be a stock block. I'm having a custom crank cut along with a custom cam. The bottom end of the engine will not hold up under very much pressure whatsoever.
Fully forged internals are the way to go with alot of reinforcement

Were using a Garrett T3

That would be the Mustang SVO and the Turbocoupe...one of my buddies is really smart on this and is a member of quite a few boards about these cars...I will get him to look at this thread and tell you what he says.

Here's what he said

Originally stated by my buddy James - 140cilx on the Mustang Boards

Tell him he needs to put a check valve on his vacuum line running to his map sensor (so the computer doesn't freak out when it see's boost), 6 psi should be fine. Since he's running that low a boost, I'd run either 1 or 2 IHI turbo's which will have a very low spoolup and easily handle giving him that boost level at a very low temp. Front mounting a TC [turbo coupe] IC [intercooler] off of an '87-88 TC would be simple and cheap and provide the flow he needs. I'd add an adjutable Fuel Pressure Regulator and a Air/Fuel guage (wired to the 02 sensor) to make sure he's got the optimum air/fuel mix - and he'll be golden. One other item, most wastegates are set up for a minimum of 10 psi.
Meaning the wastegate will not open until the turbo is providing 10 psi pressure. If he's gonna run 6 psi, he's gonna have to locate a weaker or adjustable wastegate diaphram to work at that lower pressure.

[the check valve] stays open unless it receives boost, then it closes so the computer doesn't see boost. Then again, he may wish to run it without, the computer running just 6 psi boost may be fine. W/ Fords, n/a computers are fine until they see 11 psi.
he can see if it needs one or not w/ a little trial and error.
He also said just to watch e-Bay for the parts...and to e-mail him if you needed his help...e-mail me and I will give you his address, just don't want to post it on here w/o him being aware of all the folks that would possibly hit him up for advice...

Angry sh*t, fu(k, d@mn !!!

Well thank you all for the ideas I like the one about the heack valve on the MAP I never would have thought of that.
One problem The powers above me reassigned to Musaua Japan(or how ever you spell it) and That's not the car problem. The car problem is the fact that I think I rember hearing in one of our finance breafings I had when I first got here, they said not to run out and buy new car because if you go to japan and a nother country you can't bring it unless it's made before 1975, I think that's what I rember but it was 4 months ago.
I just found this out a few hours ago, they called me down to the main office and sh*t on my dreams of flying down the autobaun at well over 100mph.
I will know more when I check out an info packet on japan in the next day or so.

I'm Air Force active duty, Aerospace Ground Equment.
I have 2 1/2 weeks left of a 5 month and a week course and I get to go home for at least 3 weeks.
And take home a IROC Z28, $6000 sign on bonus and 33 1/3 collage credits, 6 credits form basic too.
Ever sence the first part of Aug. my assignment was Ramstine Germany then friday last week they changed it I didn't know till today (monday).
Any one rember Last summer (2001) when I was in the Coast Guard for just under 3 weeks? That was fun, the USAF TI's are ball less compaired to the coast guard TI's but I wouldn't tell them that .
I got to go out and buy a 90 some thing peace crafts man tool set before I hit the road. And I all ready have the best tool of all, my lap top with sprint wire less inter net and access to camaroZ28.com.
If you see a post around dec. 7th - 11th saying some thing like " I'm in d*ck head county usa with a Broke 85' Iroc Z beside the road with this lap top and some crafts man tools" at least look at it for the love of god.

If it were my 3rd gen, I'd do a 350TPI swap.
