Monte Carlo Z34, what to do??
Well the Camaro is dead, and I will probably throw a new engine in over winter, but until than, I need another car! I am looking at a Monte Carlo Z34, 1995 with 60000 miles. All options, black exterior, black interior. I was wondering common problems etc.. reliability? It runs great. Wondering if any performance things for them? They have the 3.4l DOHC motor. I know Borla has a cat-back, insanely expensive. All mods have to be custom I imagine? Thanks for any help guys!

Run from it like it has the plague!
3.4L DOHC motor puts up nice numbers but is crap for reliability, post baout it in the lounge oyu will see horror stories.
My dad has a 94 Grand Prix GTP with a DOHC 3.4L as a second car.(yes older GTPs had a 3.4L DOHC before supercharged 3.8L) the alternator is in such a horrible place at hte bottom of the motor to get it changed at a shop costs $500, and since its in such a bad spot it heats up and fries alot. ANd the worse part is at 50k, yes 50,000 miles in 2003 the timing belt snapped and valves jamming into pistons, whole motor was trashed, was cheaper to throw in a used motor then fix the current one. ROughly a $3500 job.
I have heard of other people having similar problems with the 3.4L DOHC motor as well, back when they were new and trying to get it fixed under warranty. The car grand prix almost ended up being mine when my tranny died I went to the Grand prix boards to get some info and they all said, its a decent car but not reliable.
IF its dirt cheap and died in 6 months but was such a deal it didn't matter go for it. If oyu are looking for something reliable, my 3.4L has been pretty good despite my abuse, I would get a 305 third gen or something else.
