Lugnut Key
Lugnut Key
Hello all
When I purchased my 98 Camaro I found out that it was missing the lugnut key, meaning I can't take the tires off or even put a spare on because I can't unlock the wheels. I talked to GM and they're talking about an ATLEAST $100 job to break the locks and replace the lugnuts. I searched for a key but I don't know what it is and the factory sheet that supposedly stated it, was also missing.
Any suggestions on a way to get a lugnut key? or a cheaper way to replace the lugnuts? This is annoying. If a crook really wanted my tire's he could ****** them, while I can't even change a flat!

Here's a link on a couple of ways to get them off. This is actually fairly common.
If you have the factory locks still, GM is lying to you, because they have a master key that will take them off. IF you need a key you can order them through GM, at least i could. You could also take you car to a normal shop like a firestone and they'll take the locks off by pounding a socket on them. They will most liklely charge you for the socket(s) and maybe a few bucks for labor.
Okay, I'll take my car back to GM and ask about the master key and see if they can get me a key made. It's ashame they didn't put the key code in a better place like taped inside the glove compartment... If a crook has access to that space he can basicly drive your car off and have the wheels taken off at home!!!
Thanks for the inconvience GM!
