Low Oil Pressure! Need Help!!

96 camaro 3.800....
I have a tapping noise coming from the valve cover and my oil pressure gauge is reading low. I have a rebuild motor in it and I have a new oil pump as well. Also new push rods and lifters. This is what i did to inspect So I changed the oil and made sure there was no metal parts in the oil for a sign of wear. Nope clear I took the valve cover off and checked the rocker arms. I took them off and checked the push rods to see if any of them were a little bent..nope
I put them back on and started the car up and the noise went away then came back on like 14 secs later I turned the motor off right away..
So do you think that the rocker could be worn out? I have new parts in the engine except the camshaft and rocker arms.....I do change my oil every 3000 miles If it's the rod bearing or main bearings I'm going to be upset because I just put that motor in last year!!
any advice? I'm doing tons of homework on this and I really hope it's the rocker arms and not THE EVIL KILLER ROD BEARING OR MAIN BEARINGS!!!

Re: Low Oil Pressure! Need Help!!

I don't know the 3800 that well but that is a couple of V6-60 engines I had died like this.
It ended with spun connecting rod bearing.
The easiest test I can think of is to get access to the oil pump and spin it with a drill and some attachment. That way you can see if the oil pump feels or sounds weird. If the crank oil passages are pressurized some of the time (most engines are like this) you could turn the crank by hand to different positions and try get oil pressure by drill spinning the pump.
I didn't think the 3800 has a lot of problems like this.

Re: Low Oil Pressure! Need Help!!

i took it to the shop and they said the oil suction screen pump was clogged up! so they said you need a new one and they said that might be the problem I said ok some good news to here! Well they replaced it and put some new oil in also they said there were no sign of wear in the oil pan like metal particles in the oil. they put new oil in it and they fired it and it still has a tapping in it It does have oil pressure my sending unit was not working to well they did a oil pressure and they said it was normal. Ya think it can be a bad lifter or rocker arm?
