K&N Oil Filter: Low pressure???
K&N Oil Filter: Low pressure???
Hi again, 1998 3.8l V6.
Ok, when i changed my oil a while back, i opted for a K&N oil filter because...well to be honest, because it was "K&N" lol. The statistics on the box are rated pretty high (probably compared to some generic "valu-mart" brand), but the thing that cought my eye the most was the part that said
"2x the filter surface area than other leading brands". So I changed the oil and filter, and noticed a pretty big drop in oil pressure. The gauge normally read about half way wich i think is about 30, but after the change, the gauge read about 15 (about a quarter the way up). I dismissed it considering that the pressure was probably low because of the high flow rate that the filter has. Aparently I was right because I've driven over the 3000 miles on the thing before without a single problem. When I most recently changed my oil, I switch filters over to the PURE-One 100k+ brand, and the pressure went back up to normal. I've actually done this twice (switching from K&N to another) with the same results, and the question i have though is, is this low pressure thing no big deal? Or, do you think its really not supposed to do this?
I've changed the oil filter on my '04 dodge stratus R/T, and the oil pressure went down in there a little bit too, but nothing like in my camaro. Just looking for some quick advice. Thanks again!
