Question I'm new here...Can someone help me out?

Okay...I have a 1999 V6 3.8 camaro.
Now, my service engine light has been going on and off for a while now, I had it checked out. It seems to be my O2 sensor( we believe)...can someone tell me how to replace it?
I bought the part today and I want to make sure I do it right.
Thanxz

Are you positive it is the 02 sensor, did you have the car scanned for codes? There are two 02 sensors, one before and one after the catalytic converter. Not sure which one you are replacing... but it is a straightforward procedure. I would soak the old sensor really well with a good rust penetrant such as PB Blaster and then it should wrench right off with no problems.

If they are originals, then PB Blaster + O2 Sensor socket + Run engine for 5 min before trying to loosen them up.

Yeah, I had the car scanned and it gave me a code , something like, P1404. The guy at Advanced Auto told me it could be a number of things!
The car has 108k miles on it and I dont believe that the O2 sensor has ever been changed. I know that it could be the EGR, but I am really hoping it isnt . I have gone on-line to see where it is and it says that it is on the manifold.I am gonna give a try riht now and hope and pray that the O2 sensor was the problem...
Thanxz for helpin me, I am sure I will be back on to let ya'll know.

No P1404 as far as my manuals tell me. P0104 deals with the MAF sensor while P0404 deals with the EGR system.

I guess that quickie "take the plunge and hope I guessed right" fix won't go well after all.

P1404 = Manufacturer Contrl. Auxiliary Emission Controls

It's an EGR valve malfunction; check connections, make sure wires are ok and EGR connector is clean. Valve is probably not closing completely due to carbon buildup.

Check the purge solenoid. Take the hose off and it'll probably be clogged with/have charcoal fall out. This means you need to replace the solenoid and the charcoal canister located in the passenger (or maybe it's driver.....sorry, it's been a while since I did it...start with passenger) side rear fender well. To access it, take the screws out of the fender well liner. It's a PITA to get to, but you can do it. Easier to do if you take the wheel off. Had the same code and some hesitation/ misfire-like problems last year on my 96 3.8L 5spd car and that fixed it. A Haynes manual can help you locate these parts also. If you go to a Chevy dealer, tell them what you need, they can even print off a picture showing you where the parts are.

Question Re: I'm new here...Can someone help me out?

I wanted to thank everyone soooo much for all their help!
It was the O2 sensor. Had that replaced about two weeks ago.
Well, would'nt you know it! I went to Georgia for a drag race and on my home...once again... "service engine soon"...
Well, I went back today , a New code....P0404 ~ EGR Flow, CKT Range/ Perf!
I am thinking..."lovely"..more crap with this car.
They told me to check the vaccum lines and check to see if the connection is okay. Also to check the screen, make sure there is no build up on it.
This is crazyness I say...
I am gonna also post this as a new thread.
As for the one person whom wanted to know where I lived in Fl...Charlotte County.
