Ignition Type - late 90's V6
Ignition Type - late 90's V6
Looking at buying a late 90's or early 00's V6 Camaro. I have a 96 LT1 vette and know what an Opti is. Also have LS1 with the coil-near-plug, which I would prefer, but already changed out an opti, so that's no big deal.
What ignition system is used on the V6, and if it changed in this time frame, from what to what and year involved. Also, did the oil pump on the V6 ever get moved to the front of the motor, or did it always stay in the pan sump?

Re: Ignition Type - late 90's V6
The late V6 with the 3,8L V6 engine has an direct ignition system with three coils and a ignition module..... no mechanical parts, no distributor.......
All 3,8L V6 have the same igniton (1996+). I think it's not so delicate like the opti-crap
your question about the oil pump: I look in the GM manual later.......
EDIT: yes, the oil pump is behind the engine front cover and not in the pan sump! (3,8L V6)
