How to spend $1000 on a V6 3.4
Thank you Everyone for your posts, keep going, I'm still reading.
In regards to the posts that basically tell me to *NOT* invest in this car, or to get rid of it. I *love* my car and I am going to keep it. I am *NOT* trying to turn this car into an ultra performance musclecar. I am simply trying to improve the performance that it has, while retaining the advantages of having a V6 (i.e. gas mileage). As I mentioned, I'm not planning on putting too much money on performance upgrades into this car, because my goal is to buy a newer Trans Am which will be aimed at performance. I figure if I can spend around $1000 on this car and make it a more comfortable ride and improve its overall performance then I should be fine untill I can buy the Trans Am. Even once I buy the Trans Am, the goal is to keep my Camaro as a daily driver car (both to decrease risk to my performance vehicle from daily driving as well as for gas reasons) so anything I invest into this car is not going to be lost once I get the Trans Am.
I appreciate everyone's help, I really do, but I would prefer it if people would stop telling me to get rid of the car or to replace the entire engine (neither of those are likely to happen). Those options may be good choices for other people, but given what I'm trying to do, I just don't think they're the best choices for me.
Thanks Again to everyone for their posts...... Don't stop

Spend the money on good tires and shocks then, but I wouldn't touch the stock motor or intake or exhaust. I will promise you it's not worth it. You run the risk of losing reliabilty and more often that now gas milage will go down. On mine I had headers, tune, intake, and a dynomax exhaust and 1st gear was fast but that's about it. Wouldn't do more that 113-114 MPH with all that work ($$$). Ran 16.4 @86 before the headers and tune. I doubt it would dip into the 15s even with the headers and tune. Bottom line is if it's going to be a DD, that's great; go for it! Just don't try to modify it because you WILL NOT EVER be satisfied and it won't be much faster. Put nirtrous on it if you want to "improve" the performance.

Fastchip.com basic mailorder tune $300
Cold air intake (FIPK, SLP, Moroso, etc.) $200
Hi-flow cat & cat-back exhaust (Magnaflow, Flowmaster, etc.) $425
Underdrive pulley set $75
If you can get any of the above slightly used or for a really good deal, and you have money left over, add the following:
Used 3.42 posi rear from a V8 M6 car $250
Those will give you the best bang for the buck.

Buy tires...and then save it for the V8.
In highschool, I was in that "oh I got a 6cyl, I want a lil more power with some comfort"
THe amount of money I blew on useless **** would have been a 383 stroker.
The hardest thing to do is to INITIALLY start saving. Once you do, it's easier to throw your money in to the account.
You'll never be able to afford that Trans Am if you start throwing money at a V6 trying to get more performance out of it because an intake and exhaust won't do much for you in the long run.

Well. I ended up blowing a headgasket on the car
However, after a few months of depression (and also getting a second car) I was able to convince my Mechanic to trade me his labor/parts for a brand new computer (Working at a computer shop makes such an expense quite low). So my engine was torn apart, machined, headgaskets replaced, oil changed, spark plugs and wires replaced and as an added bonus a new custom flowmaster exhaust was thrown on. I have also already put brand new tires on the car as well as brand new ceramic brakes.
I think next on my list with be to add a K&N Intake, some Bilstein shocks and finally a FASTCHIP.com custom chip.
Though, I'm debating which should come first, the K&N or the Bilstein Shocks.
Just figured I'd give everyone a long overdue update
