How much will a cat run me at the dealership??

As the thread states, how much will i have to pay for a catlitic converter at a dealership? I believe mine is dying because of the constant ratteling coming from it. Im just curious what a dealership would charge vs me buying am aftermarket one online and installing it.

Thanks

never go to the dealership. go to an exhaust shop
it will save you loads of money and you can get a high flow one maybe?
perhaps even pay cash and avoid the tax? no?
id bet and exhaust shop would do a better job anyway.

What he said exactly... dealership prices are rip offs... they charge 25% more for the same stock part than Autozone or Advanced Auto would sell them at...

dealerships are a little bit of a rip off though some things you want done there but something like a CAT, can be done at any exhasut shop and you will have nothing to worry about.

Doesn't apply to your car but for others, I think its a law that the Emissions controls stuff(Including CAT) is warrantied for 7 years 70k miles... I got my cat replaced out of warranty.

well if you dont have to worry about emissions.....just clean it out, and slap it back on, cheapest mod ive ever done ....or get a pipe made to fit in its place...which will still be cheaper than a new cat

like mustangeater said...the catalytic converters are warrantied for 80,000 miles, so go to your dealership and they will replace it for free, if that is what is in fact wrong with your car. Call the dealership and make sure first though

His car is 10yrs old so warranty for emissions is out of the question. As for a new cat from the dealer, it's like $700-$800. It comes with the Y-pipe. Just get an aftermarket cat for ~$45-$55 and pay an exhaust shop to install it $35-$50.

Catalytic Conv. Dealer Price...

Hey...
I actually called the Dealer last week to get a price since I needed to replace my catalytic converter too...because of that awful rattling in the exhaust. Anyway, they told me something like $532!!

So I went online and bought one from discountconverters.com or something out of Houston, TX for around 140$. It bolted up every easily...took longer to get the old one off.

Anyway... over $500 at the Dealer.
