Bad Acceleration
Bad Acceleration
Hey guys, i have a '96 Camaro 3.8L 5spd. with 109,000kms. I just recently bought the car, and ever since i've had it, whenever i try to accelerate fast it seems like somthings wrong. The accelleration isn't smooth like it should be. No matter what gear i'm in, the car seems to bog down or jerk when i have it pinned. The speedometer still climes fast, but the car feels so slow because its not climing at a constant pace. Its hard to describe, but this is the first standard car i've ever owned, so i don't know if its that or if somthings wrong. For example when i downshift to pass someone on the highway, the car takes off at first then just boggles back and forth while accelerating. Any of you know what i'm yalking about?
Do you get an SES Light?
You probably just need a tuneup eitherway... Change the air filter, plugs, and the wires (probably never been changed)... If that doesn't help, change all three ignition coils (fixed my first misfire problem) and before you invest any money... just make sure the plug wires are tight on the plugs...

It could be a number of things. With that many miles, i think it could be the catalytic converter, plugs and wires. My cat has reciently gone bad at 106,000 miles and the accleration has been off. I haven't gotten the cat replaced yet, but i am hopping to soon. My spark plugs also died on me at 96000 miles so that could be it too.
If thats 109,000 kilometers than he only has 81K miles... I thought that would be alittle shy for a bad cat... I'd say check into tuneup stuff first... if that doesn't fix it then look into the cat... it sounds like a misfire to me...

Stock plugs!?
Take a picture of those!
yeah, im sure its prob your plugs and or wires, it gert really hot bye the plugs and the wires (factory is the worse) get really hot an cause to melt a little and it sparks through the boot unto the protecter or what ever is there. mine did it so bad it made a really bad thump noice when i tried to accl. fast. turned out to be a back fire caused by that. changed plugs and wires, no more back fire, misfire, or crazy jerking!
