How to change a fuel filter?
I am trying to pinpoint my ruff starting and some people sayi it is the fuel filter so that is an easy fix I heard. Is it hard to do? Any speacial requirements? If anybody has steps on how to change it, lmk. Thanks! It is a 98 auto Camaro with 60,000 miles.
the fuel filter on your car is very easy, first use a 5/8 and 20 mm wrench to undo one side and the other side is just little plastic retainer clips that just push in with your fingers or a set of needle nose pliers if needed, pull the filter out and wa la. make sure that the plastic retainer clips pop back into place other wise you will shoot fuel all over the place
What exactly is it doing when it starts? It may be the fuel pressure regulator. I was having an issue where it took a few seconds of holding the key before the car would start. It started right up, there were no other problems with the car, fuel economy was good. It wasn't cranking HARD, just took more cranking before it would start. What happens is the fuel pressure regulator holds the pressure in the system somwhere between 40-50psi. If it goes bad, you lose pressure while the car sits. If you run the car, turn it off, and start it right back up, does the car still start hard? If not, then I would definately suspect the regulator. I hope this has helped.
I checked the plugs. Turned out okay. When I start the car, it sounds like a slow wind up then it turns, then starts. When it starts, the RPM's jump to about 2500. Then it drops and revs it self for about 4 or 5 times. So I was thinking maybe something fuel related. I am going to try that fuel filter thing. Thanks!
