How can this work?!
How can this work?!
A kid at my school has 5.0 fox body stang with NOS and a cut-out. He told me the cutout alone added 25HP. I have a cut out on my camaro and my understanding was they must be placed before the cats (which mine is and his isn't) and you have to do some serious tuning to get any results. Mine added like 3-5 hp I figured. How can a 5.0 add 25 hp with just a cut-out?!
I mean for a FORD, this kids car can move. But 25 HP from a cut-out?! Help me out.

Thats what I said. But he swore he was pushing over 350. I called him out and said the 5.0 is only like 225 in the fox bodies. I dunno. He drives a stang so he must be crazy
I take that back. He must be sick.

A full exhaust will net you a gain of around 20 horsepower on a 302. If he was smart enough to take advantage of that flow and modify the valves, and intake runners its feesibly you can gain 25 horsepower after a cutout. But I don't believe he did anything worthwhile to the car.
A fox body 5.0 with a drag setup and 350 horsepower should be in the 12's. Show me a dyno, or show me a time slip or STFU Ford boy.
Hot Rod tested an LS1 and made 25 RWHP from an exhaust - still flowing out mufflers! Granted its an efficient 346 but 25 horses from a free exhaust on a V8 ain't a crazy notion.
Most people that talk about the horsepower they've added, don't actually know what their car has in terms of power, much less what it has after adding performance parts - those are "box racers" The box says 25 horsepower - so 225 plus 25 is 250 horsepower.
If you were to ask me, I'd tell you that I honestly don't know what I'm pushing, being that I haven't taken the car to the dyno yet. But the exhaust I put on, driveshaft, gears, and posi didn't add me any HP. Just make what I did have - more efficient. But rest assured when I get more serious about adding power to the V6, I will be sure to record my results through dyno and track time.

I'm just curious...you said you have your cutout installed before the cat. How did you squeeze it in there? I had to have mine installed in the bend just before the rear wheel where it goes over the axle. I'd like to have it moved because I only have about 2" ground clearance and already have shaved 1/4" off the bottom of it from hitting the road.
I think he is saying his cut out is giving him more than it is....but it is very possible to be at 350 hp with NOS, but i highly doubt he is spraying a 150 shot, and anyways, if he is saying 350 rwhp...he would need more than a 150 shot and a cut out to get there so thats
