help needed with thermostat/rough idle

I went to replace my thermostat this weekend because it went. Didnt have enough tools to do the job, so I decided to let it go for this weekend. Well, my dad being the nice guy he is, took my car over to a shop when I wasnt paying attention and had them do it.

The tech started working on it, and took off the vacuum hose to get to it. Then he decided he wanted to move the car further into the bay, and started it up, realized real quick taht he didnt put the hose back on, put it back on, and got to work. now here's the problem: My service engine soon light is on permanently and my car idles a little rough at start up, and drops to almost 500 rpm when im coasting down hills (where it's usually around 1000). I disconnected the battery for about 2 hours to see if the ecu needed to be reset, but that didnt help. The service light is still on, and the rough idle is still present.

Any ideas?

Thanks guys...

The EGR valve is the one he removed. Make sure its back on and tight. Also, there is a float in the EGR housing - a black canister about the size of a SBC coil in that area, the float might have gotten stuck, which will result in a rough idle. A light rap on the top with a hammer and a 6" 3/8's drive extension might knock it loose and re-set. could give that a try.

3.42 to 3.73 will feel like a gain of about 19 to 20 horsepower (at the wheels) and your top speed will only drop maybe 10 MPH. But that is your theoretical top speed an not actual. If you haven't removed the govenor, whether 2.73's or 4.56's you'll still go 115 MPH. The theoretical top speed with 3.73's is around 160+ MPH. So it shouldn't be something you ought to worry about.
