getting sick of 3.4 :)
getting sick of 3.4 :)
if i do any more mods....i'll be adding 3.42's and lsd in the spring....but is it really going to wake up the car that much....just recently drove my friends VW 1.8t, and realized it handed my car it's own ***.....just kinda depressed
so is it worth the $730 + to get the gears in....

Don't bother fixing up the 3.4, if you really want power then go for a turbo or some nitrous if speed is what you're looking for. Otherwise it is a bunch of money you'll be wasting. The money you'd spend on those gears would be little gain. Save your money and get an LT1 or LS1.
$730 for gears!?!?!?!
not worth that much
I aid $408 shipped and got 3.42s, lsd, and 4-wheel disc brakes and the main reason i did this was my stock diffy was leaking and my gears were trashed, and I had broken a wheel lug. So I was looking to replace alot of stuff it was cheaper to upgrade.

I personally wouldn't get gears since you already have 3.23's.A posi would be a very good idea though at only $100.Also you can install a posi yourself in the driveway. The 3.4 is a great motor, don't listen to the guys who say to ditch it.Also don't go by butt-meter feelings. My old 3.4 felt stronger off the line than my 1998 Z and we all know which one is actually faster.Good luck and enjoy the ride.

3.4L of course...
If you are really unhappy with the car sell it and get a VW with a 1.8T, its gonna cost ya though.
prices based on the slp kit from tbyrne....includes gears, lsd, and speedometer recalibrator.....
i thought somebody said the 3.4 came with 2.73's stock? i musta been confused
i could really use better gas mileage....and having a 4 cyl on the insurance wouldn't be bad at all....i'll be debating on this awhile....
but are the 3.42's and lsd going to help me out all that much....i'm not totally giving up on the camaro

No,the 3.42's will not help that much, but the posi will. It'll make the care feel different when driving and you'll launch like a bat outa hell. All 3.4's came with 3.23's stock as far as I know. One way to be absolutely sure is to look for the code GU5 on the door sticker or glove box sticker. Also I don't think that the 4 banger will get better gas mileage. My old 3.4 used to get 33 mpg on highway trips.I doubt you'll get much better than that with the 4 banger.Good luck with the car or the sale, either way.If you are unhappy with the car for whatever reason then I say get rid of it.

thanks for the helpful advice you always give nikkev.....where to find a posi for $100....and how to install it?
How long since your last tune-up?How about since your last wheel alignment?Do you run 33psi in the tires? All of those things and more will affect your gas mileage. The major one is the tune-up though. If your car has higher miles then I would suggest spending the 30 bucks for new O2 sensors and swapping them out.If they are a little messed up then not only will you get better mileage, but your car will feel like you gained some power. As far as the posi goes,I bought mine from SLP but I can't remember their website
Anyway, they are also all over E-bay:

And here's even an entire rear with 3.42's and posi already installed:

And here is the install page I used to install my posi.Keep in mind it was the first major thing I had done to the car and I still pulled it off!

Good luck and I hope I've helped.

tried getting sensors off today....wouldn't freaking budge....not a lot of room in there to work with either....boy that was fun....next step...see if shop can get them off
Just kidding,I'm not fat, just in a silly mood.Try soaking the O2's down with WD-40 and letting it sit for a couple of hours. Most auto parts stores sell an O2 socket that helps a LOT.I think it's like $2 or something. Also try removing them with the engine slightly warm, that seems to help also.Good luck.
