gauges going crazy

gauges going crazy

last night i was going to work and i notices the rpm and the speedometer going crazy. dose any one have a idea as to why.

If you have an automatic, it's probably your speed sensor failing ($25 part). On the automatics its located at the very back of the transmission housing- a round sensor with a wired plug.

is it the one located somewhere on the top side of the oil pan.

It's called the VSS "Vehicle Speed Sensor" however I highly doubt that this is the cause because the VSS doesn't control the RPM gauge whatsoever, I've had one go out and the RPM'S still worked fine...

To the original poster, the problem most likely is your Alternator beggining to fail, that or a loose connection / bad ground with the battery terminals...

Battery is going DEAD. Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago and then it surged, car took off from under me, I slammed the brake pedal, threw it in park and it died.

i dont think its the alternator i just replaced it in october more less but the battery could be the one causing all the trouble so ill look into it
